I agree with you. That seems to be harder to understand.

I am not so sure but I think that one reason might be thought of as from a game theory perspective. Compassion, love and truth seem to have been (and still are) the dominating strategies for complex species like ours to sustain themselves. At any rate I think that there can be many other factors at play.

It would also be very interesting to completely elucidate the evolution of both cruelty & kindness in the case of chimps.
